STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES!

February 27, 2015 - Author: Omonioboli - 35 Comments

Smell roses‘Tomi have you booked our flights?’ ‘Gozi did you finish your homework?’ ‘Aunty Grace did buy beans when you went to the market?’ ‘Mr Seyi, hope you bought fuel in the car!’ ‘Oya get the luggage in the car. Hope I haven’t forgotten my iPad’. In all of this madness, when do we have time to actually stop and smell the roses?

If you are like me, then you get what I am saying. I find it so difficult to relax. Even after the day’s done and I am dead tired, instead of going straight to sleep, I stay awake going through my day and plotting the next day or the next week! You know the verse in the bible that says ‘sufficient for the day is its trouble’? I think that verse was written for me! I should make a bracelet with the verse and wear it all the time as a constant reminder to relax! I just don’t know how people fall asleep in two minutes. I wish with all my heart that I could do that. Is it something that can be learned? If you know any relaxation tricks and tips, please feel free to use the comment box to share with me. I promise to try all of them and let you know which works. I sincerely hope something works because we all absolutely need to make time to relax and enjoy the little things. At the end of the day, it’s the memories we create that counts. No one ever remembers their work or project deadlines on their dying bed. They only remember the times they spent with their loved ones or regret the times they didn’t. We should always find time to create beautiful memories with our loved ones (believe me, I am speaking to myself). And if we don’t rest properly, we find we can’t relax and just enjoy the little things. I find that I get irritable and just bark orders or get upset when I feel someone is being slow around me. Bottom line is, life is too short to waste it jumping from one place to the other without stopping to smell the roses! Don’t forget to let me know your thoughts. I read all the comments, I love them, keep them coming! Let’s keep it real! Hugs and kisses…

Nice piece Mrs Omoni,u are right.
In between our busy schedule,we should always find time somehow 2 relax n be with our loved ones because like u said “Life is 2 short 2 waste it jumping 4rm one place to the other without stopping 2 smell d roses”.
As per ur question regarding relaxation tricks/tips,a visit 2 d spa always helps,or you could just sit in with ur kids and listen 2 them tell stories of their lives in school, you could also go see a movie or go 2 d beach;walk in d sand n enjoy d fresh breeze n peace of nature.
Life, though short is enjoyable of only we live it d ryt way.
    Tanx!!!

When you come back from work in the evening, go for a swim after which you eat only fruits. Have your bath and go to bed. You will have a wonderful rest that night infact you will not want to wake up. Try it and see. I am one of your fans and I want to always see you on my tv screen looking hale and hearty.

A warm mug of milo always does the job. It will get you all sleepy the moment you place your head on a pillow. Milo with a little milk or cream. Try that.

Hy Omoni.i face d same problem too.am young and not too busy but i find it very hard to sleep once i lie down..i have to map out my next day,set reminders, make lots of calls so i dnt get choked subsequently. but i started using eye shutters to sleep(d stuff u wear around ur eye)its prevents light to ur eye,and many at tyms, obstructs a wandering mind.it works.it really works.and try taking a spoon or two of original honey 30-45mins b4 u sleep.it does d magic.i have seen u in lots of place, from d dettol handfie program,to d movies…and i can tell hw worked up u are behind d smile.u need to relaxx!!
    yours sincerely,Regina.

I guess I really should be thankful to God because all i need to do is shower and once my head gets comfortable on my pillow, its till the next morning…lol. I used to find it difficult too to sleep even when i was tired but then my sister talked to me about a portion of the bible that talks about GOD granting his beloveth a good night rest…i incorporated that prayer into my bedtime prayers and my sleep pattern has changed for the better. You can also try exercising then shower before you go to bed. You have a great family and i tap into that grace too.

Have you tried having a driver? Why not allow people to drive you to the places you go while you relax in the back seat taking a nap while on the road. Keep the phones in vibrating alert only

Warm milk helps. So does reading something not very tasking and praying while lying down. Exercise about 3 hours before bed makes you tired enough but not so revved up that you can’t sleep so it works for some as well.

However, if you are like me and your case is critical, OATMEAL is the way forward. Its isn’t heavy or fattening and it takes you out like a light. If oatmeal doesn’t work, sorry o. We’ll just take it to the Lord in prayer. Good luck!!!

  15. nice one omoli, you could try drinking moringa. it really helps to calm the nerves and you get to sleep well. i literally start to sleep off before finishing my drink.
